The project on teaching computer literacy to pensioners can not only be replicated, it has already been implemented in the Republic of Armenia. There are many people living in different republics of the former USSR of retirement or very close to retirement age whose relatives or friends due to circumstances live In Russia. To ensure the ability to maintain friendly and family ties, it is very important for these people to master Internet communication programs - messengers, videoconferencing, email, etc.In this regard, within the framework of the “ABC of the Internet” program, Rostelecom has initiated adaptation of the basic workbook for residents of the Republic of Armenia. In the process of adaptation, it became clear that part of the lessons of the program is universal, applicable to training pensioners from different countries (e.g. turning on the computer, using e-mail, access to the Internet, etc.). Some chapters of the manual need to be revised and adapted for every region (government services in Russia and government services in Armenia, websites of government authorities of different countries, etc.). Implementation of the project in the Republic of Armenia was also supported by Rossotrudnichestvo (Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation), which took an active part in arranging training courses in Yerevan and engagement of partner academic institutions where they hold classes for pensioners in Armenia. Thus, the ABC of the Internet program helps support fellow countrymen abroad and can be implemented in any country that has expressed a desire to join it.
The ABC of the Internet program fully meets the idea of sustainable development. The economic and social changes are aimed at harmonious development of business and society, rational use of resources and in the long run, improving the people's quality of life. The works of the participants of the "Thank you, Internet" contest clearly demonstrate how acquiring computer and Internet skills affects people's lives, how much more convenient it becomes for them to live, use modern technology capabilities, electronic services, save effort, improve their education level, get new knowledge through online education, participate in social and cultural life and even support their own health.
In 2015, to increase the Company's contribution to solution of important social problems all major social projects of the Company pertaining to the strategy of its development, were brought together into the integrated federal program “Digital Equality”, worked out with the help of market experts. The program includes key Rostelecom projects successfully launched in some regions of the Russian Federation for the purpose of their gradual implementation on a national scale. The ABC of the Internet project has become an integral and significant part of the overall system, a logical extension of the federal program “Bridging the Digital Divide”, operated by Rostelecom since 2014. Implementation of the ABC of the Internet project helps to reduce the digital divide, to provide to all segments of the population, including the elderly and disabled persons, residents of remote and rural areas equal access to information and knowledge, granting to them more opportunities to participate in the process of building the information society and development of national economies, making more chances to use e-participation in public life, e-government services, e-learning, etc. The training allows pensioners to use the government services portal, communicate in social networks, make an appointment with doctors, find necessary information on the Internet, pay for goods, services and remain active members of the society using the Internet portals of local authorities, where you can ask to repair your street or get a grant to register your own company based on the results of participation in a relevant competition.
