Digital Community Center Project


Description

Digital Community Center (DCC) is a learning center for community to use and take advantage of digital technology. With the intention to reduce inequality, create economic and social value through digital technology. Its target groups are all groups of people, including the elderly, the disabled, children and youth, women and the disadvantaged or residents in remote areas.
In addition, DCC also a one-stop service center for people in community which integrate collaboration of government agencies, both central, regional, and local. It provides internet connectivity and service point for the government sector, providing business and career knowledge via online system as well as being a center for economic and social activities in areas such as education, agriculture, health care, trade, services, tourism, social welfare etc.
At present, DCC are located in all regions, 77 provinces, a total of 2,277 centers located in various rural areas such as temple, educational, local government organizations, communities, professional development centers, district office, community product center, etc.
From the results of operations, DCC can create 6,000 community entrepreneurs within 1 year and can create value in online merchandising for people in the community of over 7 million USD. This is a good starting point for the development of community entrepreneurs. This will bring a reflection to the overall strong economic development of the country.
Currently, it is in the process of upgrading the ICT community learning center to DCC. By adjusting the location and equipment to be more modern and be able to fully support the use of the people in the area. The center will not just be a computer room, it will be the center of the community to learn to trade products online through e-commerce which will be on Thailand Post mart website extending the economic and social development.

Sustainability

Digital community center is enabling people to access and use digital for the benefit of their occupation and livelihood with knowingly and responsibly, as well as to enable local people to directly benefit from the digital economy policy to create value and improve their quality of life.
From the result, it was found that entrepreneurs, communities, farmers, community enterprises have more opportunities and more markets from using the internet and online markets. There are trading transaction through electronic commerce in the local and global marketplace. In addition, it gives the community a hospitable learning resource anytime, anywhere, on any digital device which leading to lifelong learning. Community be able to access news, services, benefits from government agencies and the knowledge of various communities across the country through a systematic collection. They can exchange products and create value added as well as exchange of knowledge together. More importantly, it reduces the burden of expenses such as the internet, training fees, travel expenses and generates income for people. These are the result of local people widen their perspectives through digital technology.


WSIS values promotion

- This project aims to changing the role of the original community ICT learning center from opportunity creation to adding value to community. It is the main philosophy of operating a Digital Community Center. On the concept of an integrated work of government agencies at the community level, they are using the digital community center as a mediator between people and the state such as a channel for receiving both on-line and off-line services, promoting informal learning and promote lifelong learning through various media. The key role of the digital community center are providing service and advising on the utilization of digital technology for daily life and occupation, work proactively with creative activities to strengthen the people in community by increasing income through digital technology such as selling products online, promote and advertise community tourism using digital technology, creating new jobs through digital channels, and supporting the digital community center to operate as a social business.
