Empowering women with disabilities through market-driven ICT training and accessible information on SRHR

Description

The goal of this project was to empower women with disabilities by providing them with specific result-focused, market-driven ICT training along with facilitation for job placement, and also adequate accessible informative materials on sexual and reproductive health right (SRHR), and thus prepare them for a satisfactory personal and professional life. This project has achieved its goal by undertaking different sorts of in-demand and unique actions. First of all, 20 women with disabilities have been given market-driven ICT training which has enabled them to apply for any jobs that require ICT knowledge along with other necessary credentials. This project has also created an online database with case studies of all the women with disabilities who were selected for training. As most of them were students and visually impaired; therefore, besides increasing their employability, these skills have provided them with the necessary expertise that is needed to access accessible study contents and other materials from the internet. Also, all these women are now able to train and transfer their acquired skills to other persons with disabilities if given the proper opportunity and mechanism. What is more, all the SRHR contents that have been developed under this project have been distributed among 100 women with disabilities so that they become aware of these issues. Also, these contents have been uploaded online for wider dissemination so that anyone who wants to learn on these issues can download these from anywhere in the world.

Replicability

To scale up this project YPSA has undertaken a new project titled “Introduce and Promote Disability-Inclusive Accessible SRHR for All” which is supported by the Share-Net International, Netherlands. YPSA has designed this project to introduce and promote Disability Inclusive Accessible SRHR, Health, and Gender Policy for all. To achieve this goal YPSA will firstly, create an integrated accessible online Informational platform on SRHR Resources for persons with disabilities. Secondly, develop a guideline on Disability-Inclusive Accessible SRHR, and thirdly, run advocacy and social media campaigns to promote Disability Inclusive Accessible SRHR and Gender policy. YPSA believes, this project will, directly and indirectly, satisfy the needs of thousands of persons with disabilities across the country. Besides, to ensure the long term continuity and sustainability of its interventions, YPSA always tries to create awareness and some time creates social demand of its interventions and involves government and private entities by appealing to their ethical and social responsibility. YPSA also conducts regular advocacy to influence relevant governmental and non-governmental authorities and entities to take initiative to reform or rethink their inadequate policies and practices. Moreover, YPSA shares the achievements of its accomplishments in the national and international platforms so that other organizations can replicate it.
