New Era Infrastructure Data Center Program

Construction of Next Generation Sustainable Data Centers Across Saudi Arabia

Description

stc is committed to build new Data Centers across the Kingdom as a new initiative to develop next generation facilities that incorporate enhanced energy efficiency and sustainability throughout the whole lifecycle of new mission critical infrastructure. The aggressive objective (over three phases from 2017-2022 ) is to build 11 new Data Centers to enhance digital services serving the community in KSA. The new Data Centers will incorporate sustainability features from Design, Procurement, Materials, Construction, and Operation as a mandate to enhance all energy efficient and sustainability characteristics. This project comes in line with the stc’s strategy and the Kingdom’s vision 2030 towards sustainability and in line with UN SDGs goals. This project resembles the starting torch for stc to utilize renewable and clean energy for its facilities to reduce dependence on the utility grid, improve energy efficiency, reduce OpEx and CO2 emissions. The program utilizes smart tools for monitoring energy use and performance, and incorporates international certification for design, construction, and operational sustainability to confirm objective goals have been met. The program is part of the stc wider sustainability reporting mechanism (CDP) to report transparently on sustainability performance and achievements.

Sustainability

By implementing lifecycle sustainability this program begins with enhanced efficiency design principles including high efficiency components and modular growth optimize construction and mitigate infrastructure unused capacity.

WSIS values promotion

Mandating locally sourced materials and products that enhances the local economy and minimizes production and transport waste. STC has already started the migration and consolidation of existing infrastructure moving from legacy style exchanges and central office ICT infrastructure to the new Data Centers, with the first batch of transition including an objective of 900 IT racks in progress. Operational sustainability is incorporated to drive optimized utilization of the Data Centers. Solar power is expected to play a key role in unleashing an array of environmental, social and economic benefits and can accelerate the trajectory towards the Kingdom’s vision 2030 and United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Solar Panels (Photo Voltaic’s) have the ability to deliver not only climate objectives but also bring advantages in terms of economic, employment, education (upscale national skills for new technologies) and environment.
