Women, technology and the 2030 Agenda

Description

In this project, actions have been carried out in the three spheres of action that the 2030 Agenda indicates for a higher education centre:
* Training: it addresses the trinomial of Women, technology and the 2030 Agenda, analysing the need for digital technologies to safely face the economic, social, and environmental challenges that we face, from a gender perspective as a necessary and enriching element in the promotion of the 2030 Agenda.
* Research: selecting an alphabet of women technologists who have made advances that deserve to be recognized in the field of technology, looking for references in the promotion of STEM vocations in girls and an interactive trivia game that allows the knowledge acquired to be tested.
* Social leadership: through an awareness campaign about the 2030 Agenda with an exhibition called "17 goals to improve", which was completed with some works and dramatized performances about the SDGs carried out by secondary school students.
All the activities are included in an open website built among all the participating experts that allows to enrich the knowledge on the subject matter.

Replicability

The project has been developed following an innovative impact system with the 2030 Agenda from the three areas of action that a higher education center has with its environment: teaching, through training activities and dissemination of knowledge with an impact on sustainable development; the promotion of research and institutional policy and social leadership, introducing the principles of the SDGs in project management and through maintaining a public commitment to the 2030 Agenda.
This system allows building knowledge with the participation of different experts and sharing it in a continuous and open way.
It has already been applied on several occasions by the UNED in Tudela. As an example, in addition to the project at hand, there is the one carried out in 2021. How can the Public Administration contribute to the SDGs? (https://ods-administracion.quned.es/) and it can be replicated in the future with other themes.
This system can also be replicated by other education organizations following the scheme of generating knowledge in a participatory way by experts in the subject and making it available to society through open knowledge web portals.

Sustainability

This project is part of UNED Tudela's Social Responsibility and Agenda 2030 development line, whose main objective is to raise awareness and provide knowledge related to the challenges of sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda, as well as to favour participatory and transparent environments that facilitate dialogue and knowledge exchange between organizations and between these and society, all under the prism of an environment that is respectful of the dimensions of sustainable development.
The project carried out in 2021 entitled “How to contribute to the SDGs from the Public Administration?” allowed the identification of the 2030 Agenda’s ecosystem, opening the possibility of new projects that allow to reach certain sectors and issues to continue advancing in the challenges posed by the SDGs within the spheres of action of the UNED Tudela Centre.
In 2022, the trinomial of Women, technology and the 2030 Agenda has been addressed, and in the future other issues will be undertaken in line with the 2030 Agenda.
The Women, Technology and Agenda 2030 website is also sustainable since it is created as an open and specialized knowledge portal and is distributed in different places, such as the UNED website.

WSIS values promotion

The challenge faced by the WSIS seeks to promote the use of technology to promote a series of achievements, among which is the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women within the framework of sustainable development. This is the foundation of a project that addresses the trinomial of Women, technology and the 2030 Agenda in a participatory manner. Technology at the service of the SDGs The promotion of digital technologies is essential to face with guarantees these economic, social, and environmental challenges included in the 2030 Agenda. According to the communication "Digital technologies for compliance with the United Nations SDGs" made by the International Union Telecommunications “ICTs are the means to deliver high quality goods and services in essential fields such as health care, education, finance, trade, governance and agriculture. They can contribute to reducing poverty and hunger, improving healthcare, creating new jobs, mitigating climate change, improving energy efficiency and making cities and communities more sustainable.” To make this statement a reality, the ITU has a "Connect 2030" strategy that focuses on how technological advances contribute to accelerating the achievement of the SDGs and also reinforces the facilitating role of this organization in the execution of the lines Action Plan of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Woman and technology Education and gender equality are part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. There is a gender gap in the technology sector that is especially serious given that it is the industry that will create the most net employment in the coming years, which also generates a loss of wealth by ignoring a group that represents 50% of the population.
