Digital Resilience against Disinformation

Description

DOMINOES addresses the digital transformation that the news media ecosystem is undergoing. It supports the development of the digital capabilities of the higher education sector and contributes to innovation in higher education and vocational training.
The overarching goal of the project is to reduce social polarisation by combating fake news and online disinformation.
To combat this phenomenon, the project has developed various Open Educational Resources (OER) and materials to increase social resilience, which prevents the distortion of public discourse and debate, undermines the credibility of institutions and disrupts the functioning of democratic processes. The main objective is to improve citizens' ability to recognise and assess misinformation disseminated in online environments in order to respond appropriately.
The DOMINOES project could make it possible to strengthen digital resilience to misinformation by improving some of the key competences defined in the Digital Competence Framework for Citizens. To this end, we offer a complete handbook, a MOOC and an open platform with 70 OERs containing numerous examples, case studies, lessons and best practises, simulations and a guide on what still needs to be done and what are the main challenges in the fight against disinformation.
All these resources and materials have been disseminated through numerous open knowledge platforms (EPALE, Zenodo, Digital Skills & Jobs Platform) to amplify their impact, which has facilitated access and use for thousands of students, teachers and citizens around the world.

Replicability

The project can be replicated in any other country. Given the spread of disinformation and fake news on social networks and the increase in hate crimes, especially against immigrants, it makes sense to reuse the information and training gained in the project to educate young people in a culture of tolerance and peace.
All OER and materials, like the handbook (https://dominoes.ciberimaginario.es/) are offered free of charge and with the option of reuse for adaptation to other contexts.

Sustainability

The project offers numerous openly published training resources as Open Educational Resources that can beused without any limitations.
It requires no additional resources for maintenance or reuse, which guarantees long-term sustainability.

WSIS values promotion

The project assumes many of the principles of WSIS, but especially that the Information Society shouldrespect peace and uphold the fundamental values of freedom, equality, solidarity, tolerance, sharedresponsibility, and respect for nature.
