It could be replicated, assuming it would focus on different digital environments, like health, education, employment or other.
Economic sustainabilityIn its incubation period, the Hub benefitted from external funding. Once such funding ceased, WUR invested its own resources in maintaining and further developing the Hub. Year 2023 registered success in terms of output delivery, gained recognition and consolidated reputation. Institutional partnership memoranda are under negotiation. In 2023 a MoU was signed with AGRA, a major player in the African development sector. In line with the WSIS Action Line C1, these multistakeholder institutional alliances - are vital to the development of the Information Society. While at present WUR is funding the Hub’s operations, in 2024 financial sustainability is likely to be achieved via these alliances.Human sustainabilityAt present the Hub operates thanks to WUR human resources and benefits from voluntary ad-hoc contributions from subject matter specialists. During its inception phase human resources were pooled by different organisations. The current move to establish new partnerships with major development agencies will result in shared contributions to the Hub operations. Delegating data entry responsibilities to solution developers and service providers, makes them part of the Hub’s human capital.Social sustainabilityThe way the Hub is operating offers Information Society’s actors equal opportunities for registering their products and services on its database as well as potential users to consult it. Open access and Creative Common Licensing are at the core of the Hub’s operations. In terms of data governance, the Hub collects data and operates along the lines sound and ethical data protection.Environmental sustainabilityFor years, WUR has held the title of ‘Most Sustainable University in the World’ (The GreenMetric ranking 2016-2023 https://tinyurl.com/ykqxna2x ). As part of this list, scientific institutions all over the world are ranked based on matters like energy use, climate, waste, transportation, water, biodiversity and infrastructure.Full text in section 61
