MiTrabajoFuturo

Description

MiTrabajoFuturo is a project carried out by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Uruguay aimed to develop and blend in a single platform, channels to facilitate citizen’ access to labor market information and tools to make decisions about their jobs, careers and education.

Its goal is to create public value through high quality services and data about occupations, careers and employment that meet citizens’ needs, expectations and preferences in a nearby, integrated and reliable way.
Interests are an essential factor when it comes to work performance and engagement. Having this in mind, MiTrabajoFuturo focuses on generating up-to-date data and making them available, helping users to identify occupations and to define their action plans in this field. The platform provides tools to visualize how the user’s interests profile fits an occupation’s competencies profile.

Additionally, it provides citizens with an integrated and unified access to customized information about training options in the skills needed to increase their chances of obtaining a job, changing their current occupation or increasing the probability of being hired in jobs that demand specific skills.

MiTrabajoFuturo is based on a biannual updated database of occupational characteristics and worker requirements information across the Uruguayan economy, collected through ongoing surveys of workers in each occupation. It describes occupations in terms of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required as well as how the work is performed in terms of tasks, work activities, and other descriptors.

Replicability

Since change is inevitable, MiTrabajoFuturo is built to absorb change over a long period of time. MiTrabajoFuturo is a cutting edge project developed using widely known open source technologies.

The underlying application is assembled on a software design aimed at business needs, which follows the basic principles of low coupling, reusability, and interoperability between systems. The architecture allows to create a highly scalable platform that helps the organization drive performance while reducing IT costs and improving flexibility in business processes. MiTrabajoFuturo provides a solution-at-scale for the delivery of a national level service, based on a team with deep expertise and broad organizational experience of the world of work.

The software has been developed in-house by the Ministry’s Information Technology Division and the MTSS is the source code owner, making future improvements and scope evolution simple and costless. The platform is hosted in a virtualized environment, which offers the possibility of scaling its infrastructure when required.

WSIS values promotion

The software makes available tools for those who are planning to join the labor force, in order to identify opportunities and gain an understanding of the labor market situation. It is useful for those who are thinking about changing their current jobs / careers, to look for improvement options adapted to their own possibilities. Similarly, it is suitable for those who want to know about the availability of training options to improve their skills and abilities. It is valuable for youth and students, who are yet to make a decision about which occupation they prefer and what training options are most appropriate. In short, it is a platform that helps people of all ages looking for information and tools to make decisions about their occupations, careers and training in the local labor market. MiTrabajoFuturo is organized in four blocks. The first block provides information about the jobs that may be of interest to the user. The second block “Know your interests” focuses on the user’s interests, offering a fun and easy interest profiler test to help people find out what their interests are and how they relate to the labor market. Furthermore, the platform allows to link areas of knowledge with work and worker characteristics and to compare between available occupations. “Training” refers to educational offer and work training. Finally, “Career development” centers on the user's career path, providing practical and useful information to prepare for a job interview. MiTrabajoFuturo is an integral part of a larger project known as the Uruguayan Occupational Information System, which aims to build a general system of existing occupations across the Uruguayan economy, defining the skills, requirements and attributes required in each of the occupations of the labor market. MiTrabajoFuturo is in constant evolution. Biannually MTSS will incorporate new occupation data to help citizens understand what employers are looking for, how much they are paying, geographical occupation concentration and so much more.
