Description

As part of the Third Improvement of the National Education System, transformations in the curricula are being carried out in primary education. One of them is programming in the school curriculum, with the implementation of the Scratch language. The Scratch computer tool allows you to create games, interactive stories and multimedia animations using a visual programming environment. Thanks to its use, students can easily learn mathematical and computer concepts. The objectives of the Scratchers Cuba project include: Stimulate in children and adolescents the skills of algorithmization, computational thinking and computer programming, enhance female inclusion in computer science, motivate children and adolescents to I study for careers related to Computer Science and Computer Science, train teaching staff to strengthen the process of teaching computer learning from the primary level with the requirements demanded by the current transformations. The Scratchers Cuba project has collaborated with Scratch communities in Mexico and Colombia through summoned programming competitions resulting in winning female representatives among the participants.

Replicability

The Scratchers Cuba project was founded on October 24, 2017 at the University of Computer Science. Their results and experiences have expanded in primary schools of the municipality of La Lisa in the province of Havana through the training of the IT staff. Recently, the Scratch Cuba Club was launched throughout the country in the Second Edition of the International Cybersociety Congress 2019 and it will be replicated in all the headquarters of the Information Technology Union of Cuba. Experiences are exchanged with projects in Mexico and Colombia. He is currently participating in the Learning Creative Learning course launched by MIT.

Sustainability

The Scratchers Cuba project aims to: Promote reflection on the usefulness of programs to represent ideas and solve problems, inquire into the notion that computers serve to execute programs and do what the program indicates, encourage the creation of programs on the part of the students, so that they do not limit themselves to being users of applications made by third parties, stimulate the confidence of the students through the use and execution of programs designed by themselves, promote a responsible use of technologies and reflection Criticism and collaborative work through the detection and correction of errors of own and other people's programs, work with concepts related to Computer Science to develop computational thinking skills.

WSIS values promotion

The Scratchers Cuba project harnesses the power of information and communication technologies (ICT) to promote sustainable development, objective of the 2030 Agenda. It pays special interest to stimulate in girls and adolescents the skills of algorithmization, computational thinking and programming of computers, promoting female inclusion in computer science, motivating girls and teenagers to study for careers related to Computer Science and Computer Science.
