IST-Africa has proven that its activities can be replicated through organic growth since 2002 across Africa, with current participation by 18 IST-Africa Partner Countries. Open to participation by all African and all ACP (Africa Caribbean Pacific) Group Counties, while adaptation may well be required to operationalise IST-Africa Partner collaboration in other countries and other regions of the world, we have demonstrated that all participating countries benefit from their participation and the more the collaboration grows, the more impactful IST-Africa Partner Activities have proven to be.
IST-Africa is sustainable to the extent to which (a) Ministry partners in IST-Africa Partner Countries allocate the necessary personnel resources to carry out IST-Africa related activities in their own countries and to facilitate collaboration with other IST-Africa Partner Countries and (b) the IST-Africa Institute is successful in continuing to secure competitive grants and tenders which allow it to support and coordinate the IST-Africa Partnership.
The IST-Africa Institute promotes building a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented Information Society by supporting: wider adoption of technology to address societal challenges; multi-stakeholder co-design and collaborative open innovation, to strengthen national and regional innovation ecosystems, and; capacity building across the public, private, education and research, societal and funding sectors. These objectives will build confidence and security in the adoption of ICTs, provide the necessary enabling evironment,. support cultural and linguistic diversity and access to local content, as well as providing a framework to strengthen the ethical dimensions of the Information Society by ensuring adequate consultation with all key stakeholder groups.
