AT&T mobile classrooms are spaces dedicated to digital literacy where people in vulnerable communities can take free digital skills courses and labour training. The courses are designed to last less than 3 months which is the period of time that the mobile classrooms remain in one community. Once this period concludes, the classrooms are moved to other community within the same state. The project started in 2016 and to date, more than 3,000 people in 7 states of Mexico have taken different courses on digital literacy provided in the classrooms. More than 70% of this people are women and elders. This is more relevant considering that in Mexico, people of more than 55 years registered the lowest Internet use, less than 50%, according to 2021 data.At AT&T Mobile Classrooms, families can also learn how to be a digital citizen through a digital citizenship program designed for children and parents. With this program, families can learn, through different games, concepts such as digital rights, privacy protection, how to identify fake news, the importance of digital footprint, how to prevent cyberbullying, among others.

AT&T mobile classrooms have been replicated in 7 different states in Mexico through a model that combines a standardized catalogue of courses with the possibility of adapting it to the communities’ needs. Digital resources are used by the facilitators and teachers as a support to their lessons. Once the mobile classroom arrives to a different community, people can apply to take the course according to their level. The courses offer in one specific location is configurated according to the level and the needs of the people and could be different from one community to another.
In AT&T we believe that technology may positively impact our response to global challenges, and it could be an enabler of rights such as freedom, equality, solidarity, and tolerance. This initiative promotes WSIS values in two different ways: 1. The rapid growth of Internet access and connectivity has paved the way for the development of a digital economy across the world. However, there are major inequalities due to lack of digital skills. Providing digital skills training to people through this initiative will have a spill over effect fostering other rights and values due to the potential of technology to enable rights and contribute to the social and economic development. 2. Beneficiaries of this initiative are getting the right tools to become change agents in the use of technology to make positive impact in their communities.
