National Information Dissemination Centre

Description

National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) is one of the initiatives implemented by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under the Universal Service Provision (USP).
The objectives of NADI are as follows:
- To provide collective Internet access to communities, particularly in rural areas and underserved regions;
- To empower communities through more sustainable and relevant programs aimed at bridging the digital, knowledge, and socio-economic gaps. The programs offered at NADI focus on four (4) main areas: entrepreneurship, lifelong e-learning, self-wellness, and maturity in Internet usage;
- To provide a platform for rural communities, especially those around NADI, to access the latest and accurate information regarding Government initiatives such as PADU, MADANI Benefits, and BUDI MADANI, ensuring that all levels of society are not left behind in the nation's development.

Replicability

The project serves as a replicable model, setting the foundation for future expansions into other underserved areas, particularly Pulau Mandi Darah in Pitas, Sabah, Malaysia which faces similar geographical and connectivity challenges. The success of this initiative in Pulau Banggi will provide the framework for ensuring equitable digital access across rural Malaysia.

Sustainability

Building on insights gained from Pulau Banggi, this initiative aligns with Malaysia’s National Digital Transformation Agenda and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project supports SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Each component of the project emphasizes expanding digital infrastructure, enhancing digital literacy, driving economic growth, and ensuring long-term sustainability through active community participation and environmental responsibility.

WSIS values promotion

This project is designed to bridge the digital divide in Pulau Banggi by providing comprehensive digital infrastructure, expanding broadband accessibility, and introducing targeted digital literacy initiatives. Through the deployment of the JENDELA broadband expansion, Starlink satellite technology, and the upcoming National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), this initiative aims to empower the local population with high-speed internet, ICT training, and sustainable economic opportunities. Furthermore, culturally sensitive ICT programs will ensure that the indigenous community is equipped with the knowledge and tools to effectively engage in the digital economy. Aligned with WSIS Action Line C2 (Information and Communication Infrastructure) and supporting C4 (Capacity Building), C7 (E-learning, E-business, and E-environment), and C8 (Cultural Diversity & Local Content), this initiative is not just about improving connectivity. It is about creating a digitally inclusive society where access to information and technology becomes a fundamental right rather than a privilege. By integrating technology into education, business, and cultural preservation efforts, the Pulau Banggi ICT Infrastructure & Digital Inclusion Project ensures that no one is left behind in Malaysia’s digital transformation.
