Information about the project
KSA National Open Source Technology Stack
MASDAR
To develop a unified national consensus regarding a complete and comprehensive technology stack for adopting Open Source technologies. 120 branches of technologies are covered, including operating systems, virtualization environments, middleware, databases, programming languages, development environments, publishing technologies, APIs, and much more. The available choices in the international domain are filtered via a selection criteria and then two recommendations are provided for each stack level, one primary and one alternative. The goal is not to select the very "best" at each level, but rather the "most appropriate". The goal is to provide a helping hand for early adopters as well as to reach consensus between organizations and agencies countrywide, and to provide guidance for the private sector regarding what technologies to invest in for services & support. It also strives to provide guidance to the educational sector regarding focusing training and educational plans. Finally, it assists in strategic planning at the national level regarding the investment and development opportunities. This "best practice" recommendation is then published through a unified portal in the Arabic language with additional facilities to foster and encourage not only searching, but also collaboration, discussion, feedback, location of service providers, success stories and other similar services. The first version of the report and website are planned to be launched and publicized on 30 Jan 2018. Thereafter the recommendations are planned to be updated annually.
