Information about the project
BTS for Rural, Remote and Border Area of Indonesia
BTS for Indonesia
The BTS (Base Transceiver Station) for Indonesia Rural, Remote, Border Area program for rural/remote area aims to provide access to underserved areas that are because due to economically calculation have not been considered feasible so have not received enough attention from telecommunication and network service providers. The BTS program plays a role to grow the demand for this region to become commercially visible and the services quality will be able to be equivalent to the one that delivered in big cities. Indonesia Ministry of Ccmmunication and Information Technology (MCIT) MCIT, c.q. The Telecommunication and ICT Accessibility Agency (BAKTI / BP3TI), has built 255 ā€œ2Gā€ BTSs by 2017 only and already running on-air. In addition to development results since 2015, a total of 366 BTS have been built, which 47 among them are piloting "generic 4G" services at rural, remote or border areas with VSAT transport of 4 Mbps. The target is all rural/remote locations and border areas in Indonesia will have basic telecommunication services, one of them through GSM technology with a total of around 625 BTS in 2019. In building this BTS, the biggest expense is to deliver equipment for installation and equipment, since the location is not easy to reach with no public transportation or proper access road. Somehow the team must lease air or river transport service, followed by using livestock to deliver material to the location. Moreover, on muddy roads, broken bridges, rainy seasons, sea storms, shallow rivers, high rapids, even some conflict-prone areas are also a challenge.
