The water and sanitation sector in Africa and particularly Nigeria is in need of both extension and improvement. Between 60% and 70% of the population is currently without either water and wastewater services but that still leaves 40-55 million customers alone in Nigeria receiving such services – a greater number than anywhere else on the African continent. With a database created for tracking losses through leakages on pipe, extortion and corrupt practises, illegal connectivity, we believe the situation can take a turn arround through a messaging app with user friendly interface that rural dwellers can simply send an sms to eg on case of boken pipes in say Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. The thinking behind this concept is that pieces of such alerts when put together in a large country like Nigeria can make an impact towards eliminating losses in the water sector and accelerating the actualisation of the sustainable development goals in that regards.
