GOVERNMENT PUBLIC KEY INFRASTRUCTURE
GPKI
In support of the vision for Electronic Government, the Government has embark on an initiative project called Government Public Key Infrastructure (GPKI) in 2002 with the aim of centralizing the management of digital certificate for all government agencies in order to facilitate and secure online transaction for E-Government services at a higher level of efficiency and shorter service delivery period. Due to this, GPKI has created a trusted environment and increased the trust level and confidence among users in using E-Government online application systems. It secures transaction through identity verification and ensures the privacy and integrity of data through highly secured data encryption and non-repudiation by using digital signature. Throughout the development of GPKI, more than 350,000 units of digital certificates have been issued and used in regards to managing transactional high security data, information and documents such as financial management and accounting system, electronic procurement system and legal related systems. GPKI has a distinct feature whereby it uses operating model of multi licensed Certification Authority and it is fully automated in issuance of user’s digital certificate. After 15 years of implementation, GPKI has successfully elevated the confidence of users in using online application systems by 600% and the number of transactions trifold from 300 to 1200 per day. As such, GPKI has built a secured ICT foundation for a sustainable growth of a country’s economy.
