Information about the project
Computerization and provision of broadband internet connectivity to government primary schools
e-schools
In 2017, the Universal Access and Service Fund awarded the tender for supply and installation of Computer/IT equipment to 67 government primary schools in underserved parts of Botswana. The project entails provision of educational tablets and multifunction printers, and recruitment of ICT Officers for all the 67 primary schools. The UASF has further subsidised Public Telecommunications Operators to provide broadband internet connectivity at a minimum of 5Mbps per school. The project aims to promote ICT education from grassroots and to provide an enabling environment for use of ICTs in rural primary schools and for rural dwellers. Through the project the UASF has created employment for ICT graduates in Botswana and promoted growth of various small-medium ICT enterprises who are providing computer equipment to the schools. All the schools will enjoy the benefits of using ICTs from January 2018.
