Accelerating SDG Action

Digital technologies are key to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. As the UN General Assembly opened in September 2023, we joined forces with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and numerous partners to take stock of achievements, gaps, and opportunities, catalyse action, and rally digital support for the 2030 Agenda. Fostering inclusive infrastructure

ITU-UNDP collaboration continues via the new High-Impact Initiative on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), supported through the new Digital Transformation window of the Joint SDG Fund. Rights-based and inclusive DPI requires enhanced and coordinated financing to accelerate deployment and strengthen national-level implementation. Learn more

Mobilizing pledges for connectivity

The Partner2Connect Digital Coalition has mobilized commitments worth over USD 36 billion for digital transformation and connectivity projects worldwide over the last two years. We continue ramping up public-private cooperation to bring the remaining 2.6 billion people online – setting our sights on mobilizing pledges worth USD 100 billion by 2026. Learn more

Connectivity for Refugees

In times of crisis, digital connectivity provides a lifeline for people to reach emergency services and connect with family and friends. Growing numbers of forcibly displaced people need online access to basic life-saving services, education, and tools and resources to help rebuild their lives. Learn more

Connecting every school

Giga, the ITU-UNICEF school connectivity initiative, now covers 30 countries, after extending its advanced connectivity support to 12 more countries in 2023. With solutions ranging from mapping to procurement guidance, real-time connectivity monitoring to finance, Giga helps governments connect remote schools and bring digital benefits to underserved communities. Green Digital Action at COP28

ITU and over 40 partners across the industry came together at the UN climate conference, COP28, calling for rapid action to cut emissions, step up digital climate action, and help fulfil emissions-reduction pledges under the Paris Agreement.
