ITU now has 15 offices beyond headquarters, following the addition of our South Asia Area Office and Innovation Centre in 2023.

Transformation roadmap

ITU needs to be fit for the rapidly evolving future. Change management is crucial for successful outcomes and long-term sustainability. The ITU Council gave the go-ahead on an ambitious roadmap to achieve organizational excellence and approved the creation of our new Transformation Team.

Making change

ITU is actively fostering internal culture change to invigorate staff and ensure organizational excellence in the years ahead. One in eight staff members has officially become a ChangeMaker, with two-thirds of them having graduated from training in 2023. As the programme continues, many are applying structured change-management methodologies to ITU-specific change cases.

Learning labs

Our innovative learning initiative gives ITU staff hands-on experience with new and emerging technologies. One engaging session with external cybersecurity experts gave us a hands-on timely exercise in how to respond to a cyber incident.

Townhalls

Regular townhall meetings have heightened staff engagement while ensuring continual, open exchanges with leadership as we build a fit-for-future ITU.

Seeking youth perspectives

We are looking for young people with fresh recommendations on ways to connect the unconnected and harness tech for the greater good. The ITU Secretary-General’s new ITU Youth Advisory Board will empower young individuals to shape the future of global connectivity. Learn more

Council innovations

The ITU Council, composed of 48 member states, met in Geneva, Switzerland, from 11 to 21 July and reconvened on 19 and 20 October. Ahead of the main session, the Secretary-General invited Councillors to a retreat on leadership in times of disruptive transformation. Learn more

Briefings for Ambassadors

Regular briefings by ITU’s elected officials or subject-matter experts serve to keep diplomatic mission heads and personnel fully updated on ITU projects and activities. Briefings in 2023 have highlighted key radiocommunication, standardization and development initiatives. Learn more

Rethinking ITU Headquarters

We continue exploring options to upgrade the ITU office complex in Geneva, Switzerland, as a model workspace demonstrating the benefits of digital transformation. Learn more

Resource mobilization

The ITU budget is funded mainly through member state contributions, complimented by fees for various products and services. Our new partnership and resource mobilization strategy will seek deeper collaboration with development agencies, the private sector, foundations, and philanthropic institutions, aiming to strengthen both our regular budget and extra-budgetary revenues.
