Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-24)
The BDT Director opened and concluded the 23rd edition of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-24) in Kampala, Uganda, which ran from 1-4 July. Regulators at GSR-24 noted that equal, global access to existing digital services would help countries leverage transformative technologies.The “
GSR-24 Best Practice Guidelines" agreed by ICT regulators include a series of considerations for balancing innovation with regulation to create a positive impact on societies and economies from emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).

Announcement of Africa’s National Broadband Mapping Systems project
The BDT Director announced the Africa-BB-Maps, the Africa's National Broadband Mapping Systems project, supported by the European Commission, which will help establish broadband mapping systems to foster investment and digital transformation in Africa. With a budget of 15 million Euros over 4 years, the project will initially benefit 11 countries, namely Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

GSR-24: Regulation for the next stage of digital transformation
Global regulators and policy-makers will meet over the coming week to exchange knowledge and experiences on advancing 'regulation for impact'. This year's Global Symposium for Regulators, GSR-24, taking place in Kampala, Uganda, between 1 and 4 July, explores regulating for impact in ground-breaking fields of regulation such as artificial intelligence (AI), the space economy, and climate change. The annual symposium, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has brought regulators together and continually kept in step with emerging technologies since the year 2000.

Agreement with the Government of Australia
The BDT Director signed an agreement with the Government of Australia to support Member States in Asia and the Pacific region to strengthen their engagement in ITU's global conferences, including WTDC.

Acknowledgement of contribution from Czech Republic
The BDT Director acknowledged new contribution of 2,500,000 CZK from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Czech Republic to ITU in support of ITU's work on bolstering efforts in the realm of cybersecurity, protection of critical infrastructure against cyber-attacks, and enhancing capacity building and resilience alongside promoting the use of Artificial Intelligence (Al) for cyber security and disaster risk reduction initiatives.
