Greening Digital Companies 2023: Monitoring Emissions and Climate Commitments

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) organized two online Zoom webinars on 02 October 2023 at 09:00 and 18:00 CEST to mark the launch of a joint report titled 'Greening Digital Companies 2023: Monitoring Emissions and Climate Commitments'

Digital companies are actively contributing to the global goal of achieving a carbon-free planet. They are making significant efforts such as purchasing renewable energy, investing in carbon removal, and advocating for environmental policies. Additionally, digital products and services are enabling emissions reductions in various sectors.

These developments are discussed in detail in the second edition (you can refer to the 2022 edition here) of the Greening Digital Companies report which documents the emissions and energy use of 200 of the world's leading tech companies. Beyond assessing the climate data and targets of the companies, the report serves as a resource for the companies themselves to learn from best practices to improve their emissions reduction performance and accelerate the achievement of net-zero operations. Given the scale of the evaluated corporations, their climate data provide invaluable insights into the operational emissions and electricity consumption within the Information and Communications Technology sector.

The webinars delved into the core discoveries of the report and showcase perspectives from civil society, digital corporations, governmental bodies, and United Nations agencies.
