The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) held ITU PRIDA Project Focal Points Meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 13 to 14 December 2022, at Skylight Hotel.
PRIDA is an initiative by the AUC, EU and ITU. It also includes RECs, ATU, Regional Regulatory Associations,
National Regulators, and other stakeholders. It includes many direct and indirect actions for helping African
countries to achieve efficient and harmonized spectrum utilization across Africa (harmonize wireless
broadband internet spectrum), including training, capacity building, workshops, creation of national, regional
and Africa level Guidelines and Roadmaps, etc. National Regulators are the core of the project in terms of
needs’ and status situation gathering.
Subjects include the Digital Dividend, SMS4DC, HCM4A, IoT (Internet of Things), Digital Broadcasting
technologies, and cross border coordination across countries, among others.PRIDA uses a bottom-up
approach, by relying on National Focal Points for ascertaining country needs and suggestions for the PRIDA
work programme.Hence, the meeting was focused on discussing the project progress and in gathering each
country’s needs in the scope of PRIDA, to have further joint discussions on the project workplan.
ITU offered one full fellowship for one participant per country.
