CIS countries rank cybersecurity among the top priority areas in the digital development. This is regularly communicated by the senior officials and was adopted as one of five Regional Initiatives at the ITU World Telecommunication Development Conference 2022.
Kazakhstan is one of the most dynamically developing countries in the world in the field of cybersecurity according to the Global Cybersecurity Index of the International Telecommunication Union.
The Republic of Kazakhstan ranks 31st in the world and 2nd in the CIS Region, according to GCIv4.
A panel session "International Information Security" took place in Kazakhstan on 2-3 February 2023 as part of the Digital Almaty Forum. During the session speakers discussed cybersecurity strategy and regulation, the use of artificial intelligence technologies, as well as the work carried out by regional organizations to prevent conflicts in cyberspace through the means of multilateral diplomacy.
At the invitation of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the session was moderated by Farid Nakhli, Programme Coordinator of the ITU Regional Office.
The session speakers included: - Mr. Talgat Mustagulov, Deputy Chairman of the Information Security Committee, Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
- Mr. Marwan Ben Rached, Global Cybersecurity Coordinator, ITU,
- Mr. Arkady Koshcheev, Senior Project Officer, CICA Secretariat,
- Mr. Mikhail Asafov, Project Officer, Military-Political Department, OSCE Programme Office in Astana.
During the session the speakers discussed global mechanisms to regulate behavior in the cyberspace, national policies and regulatory best practices, impact of new technologies on the cybersecurity industry, and measures to build the capacity of cybersecurity professionals and create a local cybersecurity industry in Kazakhstan.
