    Joint Declaration of Intent on Digital Transformation and Technology Innovation

    The BDT Director and Mr Bernardo Mariano Jr., Assistant Secretary-General and Chief Information Technology Officer of the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) signed a Declaration of Intent on Digital Transformation and Technology Innovation. 

    “The Declaration of Intent on Digital Transformation and Technology Innovation will go a long way towards unlocking digital potential for countries building capabilities in innovation and positively transform individuals, communities and economies throughout the world," said Dr Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau. “Our cooperation with the UN Office of Information and Communications Technology will play a pivotal role in bringing innovation to the forefront of digital development and ensuring that the benefits of technology are leveraged to create a more inclusive and equitable future."​

    The Declaration will ensure close cooperation and collaboration in several areas of interest, including:

    • the development of global digital innovation ecosystems in support of digital inclusion;
    • the scale-up of innovative homegrown solutions to address the challenges of developing countries;
    • knowledge-sharing and best practices;
    • the development of innovation platforms that brings innovation and entrepreneurship capacity at the national level;
    • development and implementation of emerging technology tools;
    • joint private/public partnerships; and
    • the work of the ITU's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development​
