09:45 - 10:45 | Session 1: Introduction to blockchain The introduction session will provide an overview and clarification of blockchain on following respects: what blockchain is, when it appeared, how it works, who designed/develops it, what it can achieve? This session will also discuss the relation of the two concepts of ‘blockchain’ and ‘security’ - whether blockchain is redefining cybersecurity, what new challenges are, how online black markets work, etc. Moderator: Jae Hoon NAH, ETRI (Korea, Republic of) [Biography] Speakers:

10:45 - 11:00 | Coffee Break |
11:00 - 12:30 | Session 2: Applications and use-cases of blockchain and their needs for security technologies
This session considers major applications of blockchains, their different functional characteristics and some example use cases. The session goes on to list the fundamental security and trust mechanisms on which blockchains, containing regulated data, depend. Its objectives are to describe major application areas, major functional characteristics and their variation across application areas, example use cases and fundamental security and trust mechanisms upon required within a compliant blockchain, across blockchains and around blockchains. Session 3: Policy and regulatory developments for blockchain
This session is to share findings and encourage dialog on policy and regulatory implications of blockchain between enterprises working and regulators from various industrial-/economic sectors. Moderator: Youki KADOBAYASHI, NICT(Japan) [Biography] Speakers: - Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies: An EU Policy Perspective, Benoît Abeloos, EC DG-CONNECT
[Biography] [Presentation] Abstract: Distributed Ledger/Blockchain technologies and applications (partially due to the wide scale interest in Bitcoin) have been developing over the past few years and not just in the financial sector. An increasingly widening group of stakeholders understands their potential; fora and consortia have emerged, developing open source and proprietary solutions. Their widespread adoption could have a disruptive effect in different sectors and this raises legitimate questions at policy level that need to find an answer, including on interoperability and standardisation. The report of the European Parliament adopted in May 2016[1] has been in favour of a smart regulation in order to avoid stifling innovation and rather suggested a continuous monitoring.
Since then the Commission is launching different projects and studies on the use of blockchain in different sectors, and will establish an observatory of the blockchain, which will serve as a knowledge centre on the topic. Standardisation aspects will be part of its scope. [1] Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, Report on virtual currencies (2016/2007(INI)), 3 May 2016

15:40 - 17:00 | Session 4: Security, privacy and on-line trust aspects in blockchain
This session will discuss how blockchain technology could be used to implement decentralized applications and collaborative organizations to improve cybersecurity, privacy and on-line trust. Moderator: Abbie Barbir, Aetna (USA) [Biography] Speakers: - Privacy on the Blockchain, Sylvan Tran, Aetna
[Biography] [Presentation] Abstract: As with most emerging technologies, Blockchain is on the cusp of significantly changing how we streamline and improve processes such as authentication. Privacy is a discussion that is usually relegated to a time after the technology is ubiquitous, but that creates too many uncertainties for widespread use. If we have the discussions up front, I believe we will be able to accelerate Blockchain’s adoption by putting the uncertainties to rest.
