The International Telecommunication Union organized a "Workshop on Security Aspects of Intelligent Transport System" at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on 28 August 2017.
The workshop was followed by ITU-T Study Group 17 (Security) meeting (29 August-6 September 2017) at the same venue which usually receives 120+ government officials, telecom/ICT industry, car industry and academia experts from 30+ countries from all over the world. ITU’s security standardization work is responsible for building confidence and security in the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). Automated driving hold great promise to improve road safety, reduce congestion and emissions, and increase the accessibility of personal mobility. Security and privacy will be key determinants of the reliability and safety of ITS technologies and their success in gaining users’ trust.
Objectives
This workshop aimed to build a bridge between ITU’s technical expertise and the security requirements of stakeholders interested in implementing secure intelligent transport system. Its objectives are, not limited to:
- to better understand current landscape of threats;
- to identify security requirements from vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, service providers, etc.;
- to share the on-going activities among relevant groups (ITU-T SG17, ITU CITS, WP29/TFCS, ISO/TC204 and SAE) in terms of security;
- to identify stakeholders with whom SG17 could collaborate further on any potential collective action; and
- to identify potential security topics or ongoing security work requiring collaboration among relevant groups above.
Target Audience
ITU Member States, ITS Regulators, Policymakers, Automotive Industry, ITS Service/Platform Providers, Mobile Operators, International Standards Organizations, NGOs related to road safety and Academia.
