Dr. Ved P. Kafle is a senior researcher at National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Tokyo. He holds a concurrent position of Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo. He is also working as Co-rapporteur of Question 15 in ITU-T Study Group 13.
Dr. Kafle has been participating in the ITU Kaleidoscope conference as a paper presenter, session chair, and TPC member since its first episode. He has received the Best Paper Awards two times (in 2009 and 2014).
Dr. Kafle is involved in research, development, and standardization of new technologies of communication networks. His research interests include algorithms, protocols, and architectures for new generation networks or the future Internet. In particular, he is investigating directory systems and name resolution for IoT applications, naming and addressing schemes, ID/locator split architectures, information-centric networking, autonomic resource provisioning for software-defined networking, network security, privacy and trust. He has published more than 60 research papers in journals, magazines and conferences. He has also edited six ITU-T Recommendations related with the next generation network (NGN) and future networks. He received the ITU Association of Japan Award in 2009 for his active involvement in the ITU standardization activities.
Dr. Kafle received the B.E. in Electronics and Electrical Communications from Punjab Engineering College (now PEC University of Technology), the M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from Seoul National University, and the Ph.D. in Informatics from the Graduate University for Advanced Studies.
