Overview
The CWG-WSIS was created in 2002 (see Council
Resolution 1196). In November 2006,
PP-06 endorsed the relevant work already undertaken and/or to be carried out by ITU in implementing the WSIS outcomes under the aegis of the Council Working Group on WSIS (CWG-WSIS), requesting the
Council to maintain the CWG-WSIS in order to facilitate membership input and guidance on the ITU implementation of relevant WSIS outcomes and to elaborate proposals to the Council that may be necessary for adapting ITU to its role in building the information society (Resolution 140 (Rev. Bucharest, 2022) of the Plenipotentiary Conference). The ITU Council, at its 2024 session, revised Resolution 1332 on the ITU's role in the implementation of the WSIS outcomes and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- To facilitate inputs from membership on the ITU implementation of relevant WSIS outcomes, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through its regular meetings and circular letters, questionnaires, or other appropriate methods of query;

to oversee, consider, and discuss ITU's implementation of the WSIS outcomes and achievement of the SDGs and related ITU activities, and, within the financial limits set by the Plenipotentiary Conference, to make resources available as appropriate;
