As integral part of the UN system, ITU contributes to governance processes and coordination mechanisms of the United Nations. The Union participates as Observer in the Main Committees of the UN General Assembly and the ECOSOC, consistently following the issues for discussion that are related to ITU's mandate and activities. It also participates in UN Summits and High-Level events to advocate on the potential of Information and Communication Technologies to promote the UN objectives.

As a member of the Chief Executive Board (CEB) and its sub-committees (HLCP, HLCM, UNDG), ITU plays an active role in the UN inter-agency mechanisms, hence contributing to a more effective and coherent UN system “Delivering as One”.
