The BDT Director closed the 22nd edition of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR 23) with the highest number of participants in the event's history: 757 participants – heads of regulatory authorities, ministers and captains of industry gathered in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

GSR 23 concluded with a strong message to regulate and connect for people, for the planet and for prosperity.

During the Heads of Regulators' Executive Roundtable at the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-23), the BDT Director launched the Collaborative Digital Regulation Country Review for Egypt. 

The Collaborative Digital Regulation Country Reviews for Brazil, Colombia and Kenya were also launched at GSR-23. 

The reports provide an authoritative analysis of the national regulatory landscape and outline a clear and practical direction for achieving G5 regulation and digital transformation.​​

The BDT Director signed a Joint Declaration between ITU, the European Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG) and the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg) to build national and regional capacities in the field of mapping broadband infrastructure and services, fostering the rollout of meaningful and universal connectivity at the Global Symposium for Regulators 2023. ​​

​The BDT Director signed a Memorandum of Understanding between ITU and the European Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG) to establish a high-level framework of digital cooperation in the area of electronic communications, including regulation for a sustainable digital future at the Global Symposium for Regulators 2023.

The BDT Director launched the Digital Regulation Network (DRN) at GSR-23 during the Regional Regulatory Associations Meeting. The Network will benefit Regional Regulatory Associations through twinning capacity building programmes and information sharing on good practices. It aims to accelerate sustainable digital transformation by strengthening cooperation at the global and regional level to identify common approaches to collaborative digital policy, regulation and governance across economic sectors and across borders. 

The work of the D​RN will focus on three main building blocks: thought leadership, capacity development, and regulatory experimentation and innovation.

At GSR-23, the BDT Director signed a new project on developing and implementing E-waste policy and regulation with Saudi Arabia's Communications, Space and Technology Commission to advance a green and sustainable future. ​​
