IRG-IBB - Integrated Broadcast-Broadband (IBB)

IRG-IBB studied topics related to Integrated Broadcast-Broadband (IBB) systems during 2014-2020. An IBB system is based on the combination of the technologies of both broadband and various broadcasting including over-the-air and cable. Various multiple devices are used for effective presentation of content and user interactivity. Wide range of services are enabled by the IBB system.

IRG-IBB aimed at developing Recommendations, and other non-normative materials. The IRG also looked at contributing to the coordination of the standardization work of the involved ITU-T and ITU-R groups. It also intended to emphasize remote participation and co-located meetings (e.g., with a study group meeting, interim rapporteur meeting).

IRG-IBB concluded its activities on 18 November 2021!
The IRG-IBB intended to conclude its activities by WTSA-20. See the meeting report of 13 October 2020. However, given the postponement of WTSA (due to the pandemic) to March 2022, the IRG-IBB continued its activities and held its last meeting on 18 November 2021.Therefore, the group was dismissed at the end of ITU-T Study Period 2017-2021.
Participants agreed that the stream of work on the IBB is now mature with a well stablished coordination and collaboration between the parent groups. More information are available in November 2021 meeting report.
