Tools and Resources

¡¡

Network operators and regulators need tools and resources to assist them in planning and decision making. There are many network planning tools available. ITU-D provides a significant radio deployment support capability.

A significant amount of information is available in the presentations that have been provided in workshops and seminars organized by ITU-D in many locations, usually with local authorities and industry. These events addressed a range of topics relevant to IMT. ITU-R and ITU-T also conduct workshops and seminars, many of which are relevant to IMT. The complete programs and all presentations may be accessed on line. These events are continuing.

A review of the programs for the various seminars, and workshops will quickly identify sessions and presentations that describe the capabilities and use of various planning tools, both in-house within ITU and commercial. There are also a number of commercial resources which can be purchased to obtain information on specific deployments and licensing.

Transition to IMT. A particularly useful resource for the reader seeking intermediate level information, including specific examples, is the “Guidelines on the smooth transition of existing mobile networks to IMT-2000 for developing countries (GST)” published in 2006. This activity is continuing in ITU-D SG 2 in the new study period.
