Summary: Immersive live experience (ILE) service includes the well-known VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality), which is a new media that can produce realistic images, sounds and other feelings by copying the real environment and simulating the actual existence of users in the environment. ICN as an emerging technology for IMT-2020 and beyond has the capabilities of name-based communication, in-network caching and multicast, which can be used to better support and optimize some issues of ILE service, such as video caching and transport. As ICN has the capability of in-network caching, the ILE video can be stored both on the nodes and network, which can reduce the pressure of content providers. ITU-T H.430.3 analyse several use cases for immersive live experience (ILE), such as live sports scenarios and entertainment scenarios, in which multicast of ICN can relieve the network pressure caused by high traffic. Besides, if the requested ILE media can be cached nearby in the ICN, the QoE of the user will be improved. Therefore, as the underlying network of ILE service, ICN has natural advantages. However, ICN didn’t have sufficient capability to satisfy the requirements from ILE service. Additional capabilities should be provided by ICN to support ILE service. This recommendation will investigate the additional requirements of ICN to support ILE service and design the general reference functional framework of ICN.
