Dr. Leonidas Anthopoulos
University of Thessaly, Greece

Dr. Leonidas Anthopoulos is an Associate Professor in e-business (recently promoted to a Full Professor) at the University of Thessaly, Greece. He also serves as a Special Advisor the Mayor of Trikala, Greece and he has an extensive research and management experience with regard to the development and deployment of complex ICT projects such as the smart city projects. At his previous job positions, as an Expert Counselor at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in e-Government and e-Diplomacy areas, as an ICT researcher and manager at the Municipality of Trikala (Greece) and the Information Society S.A. (Greece), he was responsible for the planning and management of multiple projects for the Greek Government.

He is a member of numerous committees, worth mentioning the ITU United for Smart and Sustainable Cities Group, he is the head of the Greek Standards Smart and Sustainable cities’ working group, the Associate Editor of the IET Smart Cities journal etc. He is the author and editor of several book collections, which can be located in Cities, Technological Forecasting and Social Change and Government Information Quarterly (ElSevier), ACM Computing Surveys, monograph for Springer etc. His research interests concern, among others, smart city, e-Government, Enterprise Architecture, Strategic Management, etc.

Marco Carugi works as senior consultant on advanced ICTs and associated standardization, engaged with customers, including in promotion of customers' interests in international standardization. He has been contractor for NEC in 2015-2018, since October 2018 he is contractor with Huawei Research.
Technical areas of current involvement include Internet of Things/M2M, Future Networks incl. IMT-2020/5G and Network 2030, Big Data and AI. He has professional experience in R&D and technology strategy, and he has worked in different market roles (Telecommunication Engineer in the Solvay group, Research Engineer in Orange Labs, Senior Advisor in Nortel Networks CTO division and Senior Expert in ZTE R&D Technology Strategy department).​

Marco is active in standardization since long time, leading standards specifications in different domains (NGN, IoT/M2M, Big Data, IMT2020) and holding numerous leadership positions (incl. ITU-T SG13 Vice-Chair, ITU-T Rapporteur in four study periods, ITU-T FG M2M Service Layer Vice-Chair, ITU-T FG Cloud Computing WG Chair, OIF Board member, IETF Provider Provisioned VPN WG co-Chair). In the current 2017-2020 ITU-T study period, he serves as ITU-T SG20 Mentor and Rapporteur for Question 2 ["Requirements, capabilities and use cases across verticals"], as well as ITU-T SG13 Mentor and Associate Rapporteur for Question 20 ["IMT-2020: Network requirements and functional architecture"]. He also plays ITU-T Liaison Officer roles, incl. SG20 Liaison Officer to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC41, to JCA-IMT-2020, to CITS (Collaboration on ITS Communication Standards) and to/from the Alliance for IoT Innovation (AIOTI) (WG03 on IoT standardization). Since Q3 2017, he is leading the Use Cases and General Requirements analysis activity within the ITU-T Focus Group on “Data Processing and Management to support IoT and Smart Cities & Communities” as well as acting as a co-leader of the High Level Architecture group within AIOTI WG03. He is also active participant in the ITU-T Focus Group on “Machine Learning for Future Networks including 5G”. In May 2018 he has been named Rapporteur for the European Commission in the joint MSP/DEI Working Group on Standardisation in support of Digitising European Industry (May-Nov 2018). Marco is author of standards specifications, papers and articles (IEEE magazines and others), co-author of the IoT European Research Cluster (IERC) yearly books, and regular speaker in international and regional conferences and workshops.

​He holds an Electronic Engineering degree in Telecommunications from University of Pisa (Pisa, Italy), a M.S. in Engineering and Management of Telecommunication Networks from National Institute of Telecommunications (Evry, France) and a Master in International Business Development from ESSEC Business School (Paris, France). He has also completed an Executive Program on Big Data Science at Ecole Centrale (Paris, France).​​

Paolo Gemma
Huawei

Paolo Gemma is a senior Specialist and representative of Huawei on issues related to energy saving and environmental sustainability. Prior to joining Huawei, Dr. Gemma was working with Nokia Siemens Networks, where he was responsible for EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and electrical safety areas. He also worked in the Siemens Communications Division. Dr. Paolo Gemma also plays an active role in in​ternational standardization activities. Since 1993, he has been engaged in ETSI (European Telecommunication Standard Institute) activities and he also participates in the development of EMC standards.

In 1997, Dr. Gemma joined ITU-T Study Group 5 on Environment, Climate Change and Circular Economy as a Rapporteur and he is now the Chairman of Working Party 2 “Environment, Energy Efficiency and the Circular Economy”. He also acts as Vice-chairmen of the United for Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC) initiative. In 2002, Paolo Gemma was appointed as the Secretary of the Committee ETSI TC EE and as of 2009 he holds the position of Chairman of the EEPS EE (eco Environmental product standard) working group. Paolo Gemma is a graduate in electrical engineering from the University of Genoa.​

Dr. Shane He
Nokia Networks

Dr. Shane HE is a senior specialist on IoT standardization and vertical industry enablement at Nokia (Bell Labs & CTO). She received her Ph.D degree in Information Sensing Technology from Beijing Institute of Technology. Now she is concentrating on standardization of IoT platforms, new technologies and vertical industries, her interests include 5G, IoT/M2M architecture, lightweight protocols, analytics and applications, as well as E2E vertical solutions.

She is experienced on global standardization work, and currently actively involved into ITU-T SG20 (Rapporteur of Q3/20) and oneM2M. Prior to joining Nokia, she also has the background of vertical industries e.g. smart manufactory, smart cites and automotive.

Dr. Vadym Kaptur is Vice-Rector on Scientific work of A.S. Popov Odessa National Academy of Telecommunications, Ukraine.ITU & EBRD expert in the fields related to broadband networks, cybersecurity, mobile services and ICT in general.

Vice-Chairman of ITU Council Working Group on Child online protection, Vice-Chairman of ITU-D Study Group 1, co-Rapporteur on ITU-D Question 1/1 “Strategies and policies for the deployment of broadband in developing countries”. Ph.D. in telecommunications,  Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, author of than 230 scientific publications.

Ruslan Kirichek
St.Petersburg University of Telecommunication, Russia

Dr. Ruslan Kirichek is the Head of Internet of Things laboratory of St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunication (SPbSUT) and Associate Professor in Communication networks and data transmission department. He is one of the team coordinators on the development and testing of IoT devices and IoT applications identification based on Digital Object Architecture. His work is focused on experimental research and testing of ICT equipment.

​Since 2017 he is Associate Rapporteur of ITU-T Q12/11 «Testing of Internet of things, its applications and identification systems» and active contributor to ITU-T  SG20 «Internet of things and smart cities and communities». In addition to activities in ITU-T Ruslan Kirichek is Liaison Officer between ITU-T SG20 and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 41 «Internet of Things and related technologies», standard editor for the Industrial Internet of Things and Russian representative in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SG 4 «Autonomous and Data Rich Vehicles». He is a certified expert on issues of international standardization at the national standardization organization in Russia "Rosstandart".​

Robert Lewis-Lettington

Robert Lewis-Lettington is Unit Leader for Urban Legislation and Branch Coordinator (a.i.) for Legislation, Land and Governance. Robert has twenty years professional experience, primarily working in multilateral processes and in providing technical assistance in policy formulation and legislative processes to a variety of partners. With field experience in more than forty countries, Robert’s specialist areas include legislative drafting, physical planning and development control, intellectual property rights and information management, environment and natural resources, international trade and human rights. 

Robert holds a Juris Doctor degree in law from the College of William and Mary (USA), an MA (Hons) degree specialising in Architectural History from the University of St. Andrews (Scotland) and an MLitt (Dist) degree in History from the University of the Highlands and Islands (Scotland).

Gyu Myoung Lee is with the Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), UK, as a Reader from 2014 and with KAIST Institute for IT convergence, Korea, as an Adjunct Professor from 2012. Prior to joining the LJMU, he has worked with the Institut Mines-Telecom, Telecom SudParis, France, from 2008. Until 2012, he had been invited to work with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea. He also worked as a research professor in KAIST, Korea and as a guest researcher in National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA, in 2007.

His research interests include Internet of things, computational trust, Blockchain, knowledge centric networking and services, multimedia services, and energy saving technologies including smart grids. He has been actively working for standardization in ITU-T, IETF and oneM2M, etc., and currently serves as a WP chair and a Rapporteur of Q16/13 in SG13, and a Rapporteur of Q4/20 in SG20 as well as the Chair of ITU-T Focus Group on data processing and management (FG-DPM) to support IoT and smart cities & communities. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.

He received his BS degree from Hong Ik University, Seoul, Korea, in 1999 and his MS and PhD degrees from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Korea, in 2000 and 2007.

Farid Nakhli received his Master of technical sciences degree in the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics in 2009.
From 2008 to 2015 Farid worked in the system of the Ministry of Communication and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus managing projects on nation-wide ICT strategy and policy analysis, monitoring of ICT infrastructure and e-government development, regulation and standardisation, and development of relevant software.

In 2015 he joined the Corporate Strategy Division of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as Planning and Management Consultant. Since 2016 Farid works as Programme Officer at the ITU Regional Office for CIS based in Moscow, where his responsibilities include ICT strategy and policy advise, management of projects on ICT development and organization of regional events.

​Sergey Polovenya
Belarusian State Academy of Communications, Belarus

Sergey Polovenya - Head of the Department of Telecommunication Systems of the Belarusian State Academy of Communications. He is the coordinator of the IoT device development and testing team for practical applications in education and industry.
His research interests include the Internet of Things, group interaction of cyber-physical systems, information security algorithms in telecommunications systems.
He is the head of the joint Belarusian-Ukrainian international scientific laboratory "Telecommunication Systems and Technologies", expert of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, and member of the editorial board of the Scientific and Publishing Center "World of Science".

Anna Polyushko
Moscow Smart City Lab

Anna has a great experience in consulting and analytics services, before Moscow Government she was working at Big4 company. At Smart City Lab she is responsible for analytics branch: city transport apps, world innovation technological, strategies of smart cities, city e-voiting platforms, additional tech-education in schools and other researches. In 2018 with analytics team of Smart City Lab she was working on ITU Case Study Moscow and implementing KPIs of U4SSC.

Anna graduated from the Lomonosov Moscow State University as specialist in Physics (Specialization “Physical Acoustics”).​​

John Smiciklas
BOMA Canada

John Smiciklas is the Director, Energy and Environment for BOMA Canada. In that position John leads the BOMA BEST existing building environmental certification program in North America. Concurrently, John is the Sustainability Principal for MJRD Assessment Inc.  John’s prior experience includes positions as Director, Corporate Responsibility Programs (BlackBerry); and Manager, Sustainable Business Solutions (PricewaterhouseCoopers).

John has been engaged with ITU-T projects and Study Groups for many years. The scope of engagement included assisting in the development of the U4SSC Key Performance Indicators for Smart, Sustainable Cities and leading the U4SSC KPI verification process with cities globally . Additionally, John is the author and contributor of a number of ITU publications focussing on technology and sustainability. The most recent publication is Implementing ITU-T International Standards to Shape Smart Sustainable Cities: The Case of Moscow.

John holds a B.A.Sc., Engineering (University of Toronto), has completed Business & Sustainability and Climate Change executive programs (University of Cambridge, UK), and has over 20 years of experience in auditing and verification to global standards for quality, environment, safety, wellness, construction and climate change.

Reyna Ubeda

Reyna Ubeda studied Industrial Engineering and she completed a Master on International Management from the University for Economics and Environment Nürtingen- Geislingen in 2014.

She joined the ITU’s Standardization Bureau in 2015. She is part of the team that supports ITU-T's activities related to IoT, Smart Cities, ICTs, the Environment Climate Change and Circular Economy. Reyna speaks English, Spanish and German.
