Workshop on best practice models and enabling technology for digital transformation in e-health, e-education, and other e-applications

Time and place: Monday, 29 April 2024, 10:00 – 15:45 hours, Geneva (Room K, ITU)

This workshop on best practice models and enabling technology for digital transformation in e-health, e-education, and other e-applications took place at ITU Headquarters (ITU Tower building, Room K) in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday, 29 April 2024, from 10:00 to 15:45, followed by the ITU-D Study Group 2 Question 2/2 meeting dedicated to “Enabling technologies for e-services and applications, including e-health and e-education”.

Background information

Developing a new e-health program for older people with chronic illnesses has been shown to help older people manage their health, extend people's healthy lifespans, and reduce medical costs. Furthermore, during the coronavirus pandemic, it has been recognized at a global level that by avoiding direct face-to-face medical examination and conducting interviews via high-speed communications lines, medical personnel can reduce their exposure to the virus to zero, and high-speed communication technology such as 5G technology is bringing new developments in eHealth. Similarly, in the field of e-learning and agriculture, improvements in communication networks through fibre optics, orbiting satellites constellations, and positioning satellites technology are bringing about various spillover technologies and innovative applications.
In light of this situation, this workshop will introduce recommendations, standardization, and technology trends from Q28 of ITU-T SG16 and WP-5D of ITU-R. Last year's workshop focused on the core members of ITU-D SG2 Q2/2 and introduced application usage and its best practice model. In this workshop, we will introduce the standardization and recommendations related to eHealth, and other e-applications in WP-5D of ITU-R and Q28 of ITU-T SG16 to Q2/2 of ITU-D SG2, as well as introduce specific examples of cooperation with WHO and BDT's support for developing countries. It was noted in the previous plenary that it is a joint collaboration with WP-5D of ITU-R and Q28 of ITU-T SG16.
