    The 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), Saint John's, Antigua and Barbuda

    ​​The BDT Director attended the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) under the theme Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity, in Saint John's, Antigua and Barbuda from 27-30 May 2024. At the conference, he also moderated the ITU high-level session titled Accelerating universal meaningful connectivity in SIDS: Partner2Connect Digital Coalition. During the discussions, the BDT Director highlighted the importance of digital technology in carrying out the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS, as well as the use of technology to promote resilience in the Eastern Caribbean, particularly in disaster management. ​

    In the general debate, he said “We believe that digital plays a crucial role in addressing the unique challenges and vulnerabilities faced by SIDS and has the potential to accelerate the pace of SIDS to achieve the 2030 development agenda. Since the last SIDS conference held in 2014 in Samoa, ITU has implemented a plethora of projects in a number of critical areas."

    During the conference, he also engaged in stakeholder conversations focused on collaboration and sustainability in digital activities, including the youth representative from Antigua and Barbuda. He emphasized the critical role of digital solutions in promoting resilience and development in Small Island Developing States.
