ITU Digital Fiat Currency Showcase: Use cases and architecture options

Introduction

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized the ITU Digital Fiat Currency Showcase on the 13 June 2019 at ITU Headquarters, Rue de Varembé 2, Geneva, Switzerland. The showcase was preceded by the third meeting of ITU-T Focus Group Digital Currency including Digital Fiat Currency (FG DFC) which took place from 12 June 2019 at the same venue

The main objective of the ITU Digital Fiat Currency Showcase was to present the use cases and architecture options for the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and to discuss the main findings of the Focus Group on the challenges and share lessons learnt from pilots on CBDC at the global level.

Target Audience
Participation in the showcase was open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to individuals from a country that is a member of ITU, who wishes to contribute to the work. This included individuals who also members of international, regional and national organizations. Participation in the showcase was free of charge.​
