ITU IND AESA

ITU IND AESA

What is ITU IND AESA?

The ITU International Network Designator ATM End System Address (ITU IND AESA) was established by the ITU for use by service providers for the provision of ATM services. The ITU IND AESA enables companies, corporations and governmental institutions to implement an ATM addressing scheme for public ATM services that may not be offered across international borders. Apart from the ITU IND, there are several other AESA types that each has their own characteristic properties. ITU-T Recommendation E.191 defines an overview of all existing AESA types and proposes that ATM Service providers (ASPs) use the ITU IND AESA as the preferred method of B-ISDN addressing.
The ITU-T Recommendation E.191.1 defines the criteria and procedures for the allocation of the ITU IND AESA. The Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) of the ITU has been requested to perform the task of Registrar for ITU IND AESA. The Registrar has the responsibility for the processing and associated administrative functions, of registration requests from applicants, in accordance with ITU-T Recommendation E.191.1 (02/2001). The processing of registration requests will be performed in close cooperation and consultation with national administrations, as required by national administrations.

Who can apply for an ITU IND AESA?

Any company, corporation or governmental organization that operates a public correspondence service between end users, private networks or other ATM Service Providers (ASPs) using an ATM network can apply for an ITU IND AESA, in accordance with ITU-T Recommendation E.191.1
Whilst the ITU IND AESA os typically allocated to an ASP, it may also be allocated to other organizations who are able to demonstrate that the other AESA formats do not meet their addressing requirements and who affirm that the ITU IND AESA will be used to facilitate interworking of the public network.
