Outputs
D.5-1 ICTs and climate-change adaptation and mitigation.
D.5-2 Emergency telecommunications.

D.5-1 ICTs and climate-change adaptation and mitigation

(PP Decisions 5, 13, PP Resolutions 25, 71, 182, WTDC Resolutions: 1, 5, 30, 66)
In 2015, enhanced knowledge of Member States on climate change adaptation policy development was achieved through national workshops, enhanced capacity of Member States on Green ICT strategies and enhanced awareness of Member States on using ICTs for protection of the environment.

Several regional workshops and trainings were organized in this field of activity (Green ICTs and Smart Grids, Use of telecommunications/ICTs for smart and sustainable development and protection of the environment, etc.) and some countries benefited from direct assistance in this regard.

D.5-2 Emergency telecommunications

(PP Decisions 5, 13, PP Resolutions 25, 37, 71, 98, 136, 140, 182, WTDC Resolutions: 1, 5, 30, 34, 69) ITU-D enhanced the ability of Member States to save lives when disaster strikes through deploying emergency telecommunication equipment, and deploying the capacity to use this equipment and these services in response to Malawi (flooding, January 2015), Mozambique (flooding), Vanuatu (category 5 cyclone Pam, March 2015), Micronesia (category 5 super typhoon Maysak, April 2015), Mozambique (flooding, April 2015), Nepal (earthquake, April 2015), Kenya (flooding, May 2015), Myanmar (flooding, August 2015) and Dominica (storm, August-September 2015).

Direct assistance was provided to several countries, specifically in the field of: Implementation of early warning telecommunication systems; communications during emergencies; National Emergency Telecommunications Plan (NETP); increased awareness related to the use of telecommunications/ICTs for emergency situations, disaster preparedness, prediction, detection and mitigation and MDRU.
