Summary:
|
Deterministic communication service is a type of teleservices [b-ITU-T I.112] with additional capabilities which can ensure deterministic communication performances. Compared with best-effort communication, the performances of deterministic communication have narrower performance ranges which means that the differences between the best performance and the worst performance in these ranges are small [9].
Deterministic communication service in local area network can be widely used inside buildings, workshops, factories and parks which guarantees required QoS with bounded network performances.
Deterministic communication services are enabled by deterministic communication technologies. standardization organizations, IEEE 802.1 Time-Sensitive Networking, IETF DetNet and 3GPP as examples, are carrying out research and standardization work related to deterministic network technologies.
Deterministic communication service in local area network often across several network technology domains, i.e., inter-technology domains, so that it is necessary to be studied and standardized in order to effectively adopt these network technologies. From March 2021, Q.6/13 initiated a work item on “QoS requirements and framework for supporting deterministic communication services in local area network for IMT-2020”, i.e., ITU-T Y.3121.
In ITU-T Y.3121 “QoS requirements and framework for supporting deterministic communication services in local area network for IMT-2020”, a high-level framework of inter- technology domain deterministic communication services in local area network is specified, from which multiple high level framework instances for different applications (including periodic control applications, high-bandwidth applications, and time-sensitive and high-bandwidth mixed applications) are derived. Three QoS groups, including application-to-application QoS metrics, station-to-station QoS metrics and intra technology domain metrics, for inter-technology domain deterministic communication services are identified. A functional framework consisting of 7 entities is specified, which can be the basis for functional architecture for QoS guarantee of deterministic communication services, the proposed new work item.
