Summary: Recommendation ITU-T Y.3061 "Architecture framework for Autonomous Networks" provides requirements, architecture, components, and related sequence diagrams, which together comprise an architecture framework for AN. The architecture of AN is required to have the capability to manage the lifecycle of controllers and support inter-controller coordination and interactions [ITU-T Y.3061]. Furthermore, Y.3061 indicates that in order to achieve automated operations and enhance the intelligence level of networks, it is necessary to further adopt new AI techniques for the intelligent generation, automatic execution, automatic feedback, and intelligent updating of controller interaction and collaboration strategies. Inter-controller interactions and coordination refers to the resolutions of conflicting goals for various scenarios, like power consumption vs. coverage optimization [Y.3061]. Example of a relevant inter-controller interaction strategy is game theory based cooperative and non-cooperative mechanisms. Traditional controllers’ interaction relies heavily on the ML models which are based on predefined policies and logic, limiting their ability to adapt to rapidly changing network environments and handle new scenarios. Without the dynamic learning and optimization capabilities of emerging AI technologies, these controllers might struggle to effectively handle unknown or unforeseen network conditions. Based on the AN architecture in Y.3061, this Recommendation will study the framework, requirements and use cases of intelligent controller interaction for autonomous network in future networks including IMT-2020.
