Recent Movement on "IoT" and its Future

IoT Use Cases, Optical Access Network and eHealth

This Country Workshop will introduce recent movement on Business Use Cases featuring IoT and Optical Access Network Technologies.  It will also cover eHealth case utilizing Body Area Network (BAN) technology.

  1.  IoT: Applications, Technologies, and future issues
    • Generic trend in IoT is surveyed. Then, required technologies for typical applications are clarified. Then, challenges of Mitsubishi Electric on IoT are introduced from R&D and business points of view.
  2. Next Generation Optical Access Network Technologies for the IoT/IoE Era
    • Optical access network technologies in Japan, which now provides more than 25 million subscribers with the world's highest services quality, are ever evolving to become a future communication infrastructure of IoT/IoE era.   R&D activities of the next generation optical access network technologies to realize a higher bandwidth, a wider coverage, and a flexible network resource assignment will be summarized.
  3. IoT Use Cases in the field of Industries and Societal Infrastructure
    • This presentation will introduce more than ten use cases using IoT technologies implemented by Hitachi. Most of them are related to the Operation & Maintenance of Societal Infrastructure Systems such as power plants, railroads, bridges, hospitals, and even in the field of agriculture.
  4. M2M-enabled BAN Portable Health Clinic toward Affordable eHealth Service
    • eHealth service is a key enabler for steady economical growth in developoing countries. Portable Health Clinic (PHC) by Body Area Network (BAN) technology provides efficiency for remote people and M2M framework strengthens affordability to the service from the view point of the business model.
