Session 118

09:00–10:45, Monday, 8 April 2019 Room C2, ITU Tower Thematic Workshop

In 2019, the Internet will celebrate its 50th anniversary. As a brand-new achievement of human civilization and an important technological revolution in the history of human development, the Internet is of great historical significance and contemporary value. Although we can't catch up with the dramatic technological changes, we can stop at this particular point(2019), and make a systematic review and summary of the development experience, the challenges and enlightenment of the Internet in the past 50 years (1969-2019) . This does not only serve as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Internet, but also provide an excellent opportunity to reflect on the future development of the Internet. We have always been committed to promoting the oral history research of Internet's 50 years of development process, rules and trends. We hope that through this project, on one hand, we can accumulate and expand the research resources of Internet development history, promote the diversification and globalization of Internet history research and the innovation of Internet history writing paradigm, and lay a good foundation for the development of Internet history in the future. On the other hand, this project is conducive to the construction of global Internet database, the collection of audio-visual documents and archives formed in the process of oral history interview, and lays a historical data foundation for the promotion of extensive research on oral history of the Internet. Over the past 12 years, we have interviewed more than 400 Internet pioneers, covering more than 40 countries and regions, and now we are still actively promoting the continuous development of this project.
