Capacity Building for governments on technical Internet Issues

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers

Session 166

14:30–16:15, Monday, 8 April 2019 Room H1, ITU Montbrillant Coffee will be served before the session Thematic Workshop

The complexity of the Internet technical and economical ecosystem represents a real challenge for public policy makers, who wants to develop efficient policies and to avoid any unintended consequences.

This session will provide information on what ICANN and ITU are carrying forward with respect to capacity building, particularly in the developing world with respect to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  It will, though, also explore, with participants present, what more both ICANN and ITU should be doing and where synergy can be enhanced.

ICANN will be focusing primarily on work carried forward in the government coordinated Working Group on the Underserved Regions, which has been successful, through outreach and educations initiatives in Africa, Asia and Latin America, to help government officials, and others, understand better the governance of the Internet and the working of the Domain Name System.

Representative of the development arm of ITU-D will similarly be focusing on their developmental programme (some of it mandates through the WTDC in 2017) with respect to networks, iPv6 and training on Internet Governance issues.
