A roadmap to a trusted Cloud for Good

Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) declared in a recent ITU Web Dialogue that “Cloud computing represents the catalyst and the enabler of the important technological shift that was already well underway before COVID-19. And it’s likely to be key to business resilience in the aftermath of the pandemic.” In fact, Cloud Computing has emerged as an important technology evolution that is disrupting technology, economy, innovation, resilience of our society. Yet, for the Cloud to unleash its full potential especially in many developing countries, it is important to build a trusted environment.

This session organised by the ITU-D Study Group 1 Question 3/1  bring experts from various parts of the world to discuss how you a build a roadmap to a trust Cloud for Good. Participants will gain an insight in the works of Question 3/1 and are welcomed to submit relevant case studies, research, lesson learnt as contributions, through ITU Membership, to enrich the work of Question 3/1. Dr Eun-Ju Kim
Dr Eun-Ju Kim Chief of Digital Knowledge Hub Department, Telecommunication Development Bureau, International Telecommunication Union

Dr Eun-Ju Kim is currently Chief of Digital Knowledge Hub Department, BDT/ITU,  overseeing capacity and digital skills development, ICT data and analytics, creating enabling legal, policy, regulatory and market environments, and the neutral contribution-driven ITU-D Study Groups through various platforms, services and products in close coordination and partnership with various stakeholders, which can contribute to achieving ITU Goals and the UN SDGs for a sustainable digital economy and society, after having served as Chief of the Innovation and Partnership Department and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific in ITU, Lecturer in the London City University, Senior Adviser to Minister of Communications, and Senior Research Fellow at KISDI (R.O.Korea). She holds MA from the Seoul National University (R.O.Korea), and MA and PhD from the London City University (UK). She has also undertaken an Executive Education at the Harvard Kennedy School and published numerous books and articles with 30 years’ experiences.


Mr Nasser Ketani
Mr Nasser Ketani Rapporteur, ITU-D Study Group 1 Question 3/1 “Emerging technologies, including cloud computing, m-services, and OTTs" KDC (Morocco) Moderator

Nasser Kettani, a graduate of Orsay University, in Computer Engineering and Cognitive Sciences, is an international expert, consultant, lecturer, teacher and author in information technology with over 33 years of experience in computer science and the software industry in particular. He has worked for leading IT companies in several countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa. He is the CEO and founder of KDC (Kettani Digital Consulting).  Before starting his own consulting business in Digital Transformation and co-founding Hidden Clouders, Nasser Kettani spent 13 years with Microsoft Corporation in various roles, including Director General for North Africa and Director General and Chief Technology Officer for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) in charge of digital transformation, modern technologies such as the Cloud, and industrial and governmental relations for the development and promotion of policies, regulations, and standards in ICT. Nasser Kettani advises private and public sector institutions in their quest for digital transformation by evaluating the impact of major technological changes on their business and by helping them build strategies and roadmaps that enable them to make the most of these major innovations. Nasser also advises governments on technology policy and regulations. Nasser's areas of expertise cover, among other things, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, CyberSecurity, Data Privacy, Accessibility, Innovation, egovernment, Smart-Cities, E-Education, Internet Governance. Nasser Kettani is the Rapporteur of the ITU-D Study Group on "access to emerging technologies such as Cloud Computing, OTT and M-Services for developing countries ». Nasser has extensive experience in the development of international standards. He has written many articles and a book on software design and modeling "from Merise to UML". He has been a lecturer on best software development practices at Dauphine University, Paris France, EM Lyon Casablanca, and has delivered hundreds of lectures to ICT conferences around the world.


Mr.  Warren Hero
Mr. Warren Hero Chief Information and Digital Officer Webber Wentzel (South Africa)

Warren was recently nominated by the Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) as a finalist in the President’s awards as a Visionary CIO. Acknowledged as the Enterprise CxO at AFRICACOM 2019 and serves as Digital Transformation Advisor to His Excellency President of Botswana.

He had a tenure as Chief Information and Operations Officer for Eduloan, a leading provider of study loans in South Africa; he has a keen understanding of the financial services industry.

Warren was the first of two global Fellows with the International Council for Information Technology in Government Administration (ICA). The ICA, currently headquartered in Canada, is a non-profit international association that promotes and facilitates the informal exchange of ideas, knowledge and experiences in the management, organisational impact and use of information technology in central government administration.

 


Ms. Otilia Phiri
Ms. Otilia Phiri Attorney, Emerging Markets, Middle East & Africa Microsoft (Kenya)

Otilia is an in-house legal professional with over a decade experience across Middle East and African markets who enjoys working at the intersection of law and technology. Currently an Attorney at Microsoft leading commercial and corporate legal support for the East and Southern African business based out of Nairobi Kenya, her role includes engagement with both private and public sector organizations to support their navigation of the evolving technology regulatory landscape spurred by emerging issues such as privacy, cyber security and/or AI ethics. She also leads the Diversity & Inclusion program for the Corporate., External & Legal Affairs Middle East & Africa team.

Prior to joining Microsoft, she worked for Nokia Corporation in various roles including as Legal Counsel, Middle East & North Africa and Samsung Construction & Engineering as Legal Advisor, Middle East based out of Dubai, UAE.

Otilia holds an LLB from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Construction Project Management from Heriot Watt University, Dubai Campus and is admitted as a Legal Practitioner in the High Court of Zimbabwe.

Otilia is driven by a passion for people and community engagement. She is an active member of the Lean In.Org Lawyers in Tech circle in Nairobi, Kenya and board member of LAYC Trust in Zimbabwe that offers mentorship for young girls.


Mr. Ozgur Danisman
Mr. Ozgur Danisman Director of Sales Engineering, Emerging Markets Forcepoint (UAE)

Ozgur Danisman is the director of sales engineering for emerging markets at Forcepoint. In this role, he leads the cybersecurity presales teams for the Middle East, Russia, Turkey and Africa. With over 20 years of experience in ICT, Danisman has extensive background in information security, IT auditing and monitoring, security governance, consulting and business development. 

Before joining Forcepoint, Danisman was the head of cybersecurity sales at Cisco Systems where he led the teams responsible for the organisation's biggest clients across the Middle East. Prior to that, he served as the CISO and IT Security Manager for the UAE’s Department of Justice.

Danisman holds an MBA from Yeditepe University in Turkey and recently completed the Accelerated Development Programme from the London Business School. He has also received security certifications in CISSP, CISM, CISA and ISO 27001.

 

 


Dr. Marnix Dekker
Dr. Marnix Dekker Cybersecurity expert ENISA, the EU Agency for Cybersecurity

Marnix works at ENISA, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, where he is the NIS Directive coordinator and the team lead for telecom security, cybersecurity breach reporting, and cloud security. He has a Ph.D. degree in Computer security and an M.Sc. degree in Theoretical physics, with a thesis in Quantum mechanics. 

Previously, he worked at the European Commission’s CISO office, where he was responsible for the corporate IT security strategy, the corporate policy, and responsible for linking between operational security teams and the political level and press. 

Before joining ENISA he worked as an IT auditor at KPMG in The Hague, as an IT architect and protocol designer for the Dutch government’s e-ID systems, as a software develoer in Pisa, as a university teacher, and as a sailor in the North Sea offshore.
