WSIS&SDG TalkX - International Day of Older Persons: Resilience in a Changing World

The International Day of Older persons is observed on 1 October every year, aiming to raise awareness about issues faced by older persons, but to also appreciate the contributions that older persons make to society. The 2022 theme of UN International Day of Older Persons (UNIDOP), “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World” serves as a hallmark and reminder of the significant role older women play in traversing global challenges and contributing to their solutions with resilience and fortitude.

The WSIS& SDG TalkX will gather a multistakeholder panel to highlight the resilience of older women in the face of environmental, social, economic and lifelong inequalities, with a primary focus on how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been and are still playing a major role 

This occasion will also be used to launch the third edition of the WSIS Healthy Ageing Innovation Special Prize, an exceptional international recognition of WSIS Stakeholders as leaders for their excellence in supporting innovation that brings sustainable solutions designed for the ever-increasing global population of older people.


Mr. Anshu Banerjee
Dr. Anshu Banerjee Director, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Ageing, World Health Organization WHO, Switzerland

Dr. Anshu Banerjee is the Senior Advisor for WHO's Department of Reproductive Health and Research including the UNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP). He joined the Department in August 2015. In addition to his role as Senior Advisor to the Department, Dr. Banerjee will lead WHO's work to operationalize the UN Secretary General's Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health - a road map to end all preventable deaths of women, children and adolescents by 2030 and improve their health. Dr. Banerjee will also work on the new Global Financing Facility (GFF) in support of the strategy.


Mr. Michael W. Hodin, Ph.D.
Mr. Michael W. Hodin, Ph.D. CEO Global Coalition on Aging (GCOA)

Michael W. Hodin, Ph.D. is CEO of the Global Coalition on Aging, Managing Partner at High Lantern Group, and a Fellow at Oxford University’s Harris Manchester College. He has spoken internationally on the topic of aging, including at G20, APEC, Davos, and the World Knowledge Forum (WKF). He is also a blogger on Medium.

From 1976-80, Mike was Legislative Assistant to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. During this period he was also a Visiting Scholar at Brookings Institution, on U.S. Foreign Economic Policy. He was a senior executive at Pfizer, Inc. for 30 years, where he created and then led its International Public Affairs and Public Policy operations and served on Management Boards for a number of its businesses.

Mike is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and from 2010-2013, was Adjunct Senior Fellow with a focus on population aging. Mike was also the recipient of the 2012 Fred D. Thompson Award from the American Federation for Aging Research. He sits on the Boards of the Foreign Policy Association, Business Council for International Understanding, American Skin Association, American Federation for Aging Research and Emigrant Savings Bank. Mike was a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Ageing. And he sits on the Advisory Board for the Milken Institute Center for the Future of Aging.

Mike holds a BA, cum laude, Cornell University, M.Sc.in International Relations from The London School of Economics and Political Science, and M.Phil and Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University.

Ms. Roxana Widmer-Iliescu
Ms. Roxana Widmer-Iliescu Senior Coordinator, Digital Inclusion International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

Roxana WIDMER-ILIESCU has been working at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Development Sector (ITU-D) since 1998. As Senior Programme Officer in charge of Digital Inclusion, she promotes the empowerment through ICTs of persons with specific needs – including Indigenous peoples, women and girls, youth, persons with disabilities (PwD) and the elderly. To achieve this, Ms. Widmer leads and coordinates the development of activities that enable these groups to further their social and economic development through access to and use of ICTs. As ITU-D Focal Point for ICT Accessibility, she also advises ITU Members on designing policies and executing strategies for promoting and implementing ICT accessibly services and solutions for PwD in their respective countries. To support global implementation, she directed the development of several ITU-D key resources, including: the “Web Accessibility Programme ”Internet for @ll”, the on-line trainings “ICT accessibility: the key to inclusive communication”, video-tutorials on the development and remediation of accessible digital content. These are concrete tools that can be used by all stakeholders to ensure that PwD can use affordable and accessible ICTs as well as to promote inclusiveness in the digital era. In her work with the ITU regional offices, Ms. Widmer also advocates for the promotion of the accessibility of ICTs and encourages implementation of ICT accessibility policies and services for PwD. Moreover, to strengthen regional capacity in ICT accessibility she also delivers ITU-certified executive trainings to stakeholders during regional events, most recently at ‘Accessible Americas: ICT for ALL’ held Jamaica from 28 to 30 November. The ultimate goal of Ms. Widmer’s work is to contribute to building inclusive digital societies globally.


Dr. Jane Barratt PhD
Dr. Jane Barratt PhD Secretary-General International Federation on Ageing (IFA)

Dr. Jane Barratt is the Secretary General, International Federation on Ageing (IFA) an international NGO with general consultative status at the United Nations and its agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO).  Her leadership drives the agenda for the world’s population ageing within the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing.  Among her many current positions Jane is a Member, Vision Academy, Director, Baycrest Health Sciences, Associate Scientist, Sinai Health System, Member, WFPHA International Council for Adult Immunisation Taskforce, Member, World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Ageing and Longevity, CSO Representative, WHO COVAX Pillar “vaccine strategy,” Member, IA2030 Strategic Priority Life course and Integration Working Group and Member of the European Interdisciplinary Council on Ageing Assembly. 


Mr. Charles Bark
Mr. Charles Bark Founder & CEO Hinounou ( Winner of the WSIS Healthy Ageing Innovation Special Prize 2022)

After a rich experience at Samsung and as CIO of Yamanouchi Pharma, Charles is a successful French Serial Entrepreneur in France and China. In January 2018, he was named by French President Emmanuel Macron as one of the top 3 French entrepreneurs in AI in China. 

After a combined 12Y R&D in US, Canada, France and China, Charles founded HiNounou. HiNounou is an AI Patient centric Data Platform focusing on preventive care that helps Seniors and Chronic Disease Patients to live Longer, Healthier and Happier at home. HiNounou has been selected as one of the top 100 Technology Pioneers in the World by the World Economic Forum in 2021. In 2022, Charles led HiNounou to be a World Winner of the UN/WHO/GCOA among 115 public/private institutions from 40 countries and received the "Healthy Ageing Innovation Prize" at UN ITU WSIS. He is also guest lecturer in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and eHealth for MBA/EMBA participants at HEC Paris, Oxford, CEIBS, EDHEC, UTC. He is passionate to make a better World with visionary leaders to improve well-being of million Older Persons and their caregivers driven by SDG3&10, especially in LMICs.

Charles is currently a PhD researcher in "AI Patient Digital Twin" for Preventive Care in France UTC/CNRS. He holds 2 Msc from HEC Paris, University of Oxford and UTC.

She studied health and social care.
