World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), has served as a global multistakeholder platform for digital cooperation and development, marking two decades of significant contributions to shaping the digital landscape. Established in 2003, WSIS has been at the forefront of fostering dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in the realm of information and communication technologies (ICTs). In 2025, WSIS is poised for a comprehensive review (WSIS+20 review), offering an invaluable opportunity to reflect on the milestones achieved and the challenges faced in the dynamic world of digital transformation. This review will be a testament to the enduring commitment of the global community to harness the power of ICTs for the betterment of information and knowledge societies worldwide, contributing significantly to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 

Aligned with the High-Level Political Forum 2024 theme on Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions, this side event seeks to amplify the importance of digital governance and cooperation as essential components for achieving the 2030 Agenda. Further, it aims to enhance understanding about WSIS and its role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Recognizing impactful and existing digital governance processes, such as WSIS, that have shaped the technological landscape, this side event will also foster discussions on the forthcoming WSIS+20 review. The event will bring together a diverse panel of experts, including representatives from government, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society, fostering collaborative discussions to address the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital revolution in the context of global sustainable development efforts.

An existing cornerstone of the WSIS process and its Forum is the critical importance of multistakeholder participation in shaping the digital agenda. Through active engagement with governments, civil society, the private sector, academia, technical community, international organizations, and other stakeholders, the WSIS process encourages the policies and initiatives are people-centered, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all.
