About the event
In line with paragraph 108 and the Annex of the Tunis Agenda for the
Information Society, the ITU invited all WSIS stakeholders
interested and involved in the implementation process for building
confidence and security in the use of ICTs, to a consultation
meeting
15-16 May 2006 at ITU Headquarters in Geneva,
Switzerland.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the WSIS
multi-stakeholder implementation process for WSIS Action Line C5:
"Building confidence and security in the use of ICTs".
In accomplishing the agenda for C5 and moving forward on
potential partnership activities for global cybersecurity, the
meeting was structured around five main themes to consider,
discuss and further promote multi-stakeholder partnerships among
governments, the private sector and other stakeholders. These
themes are:
- information sharing of national approaches, good practices
and guidelines;
- developing watch, warning and incident response
capabilities;
- technical standards and industry solutions;
- harmonizing national legal approaches and international
legal coordination;
- privacy, data and consumer protection.
In addition, the event also looked more closely at how developing
countries can be more involved in global cybersecurity activities
and initiatives.
The meeting
invitation letter,
draft agenda and
registration form is available on the main
WSIS
Implementation website.
The meeting was open to all WSIS stakeholders that are
interested and involved in the implementation process in the field
of building confidence and security in the use of ICTs.
