31st Meeting of the Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG), Closing Remarks
Geneva, Switzerland  23 May 2024

TDAG Chair, Roxanne,
Esteemed Vice Chairs of the TDAG,
Distinguished delegates,
Colleagues,

I am grateful to you. It has been an extra-ordinary week. The reason why we worked so efficiently is thanks to your active participation and contribution. We have had 169 delegates, 131 from Member States, 32 Sector Members and 1 Academia, and one Regional Telecommunication Organization. We looked at 49 documents with 19 of these being membership contributions and 20 Secretariat Documents. The remainder being from Chairs of various groups and Liaison Statements.

  • To our Partners
  • To our Study Groups
  • To our ITU-D Members
  • To the Member States

We remain member driven, results oriented and development oriented. We continue to coordinate with the two other sectors to avoid duplication of effort and resources.

We work very well with the BR Director on activities of mutual interest especially to space, spectrum management, etc. Resolution 9 is a case in point.

With TSB, we cooperate on bridging the standardization gap and innovation in as far as standards are concerned.

With the General Secretariat we work closely on ensuring that our systems are efficient and responsive to our needs in Finance, Human Resources, and Information systems.

But we also work closely to strengthen our work with the UN-wide system.

We are at a critical moment. We are seeking to work on a new Action Plan. As we prepare to embark on Regional Preparatory Meetings, I congratulate TDAG for advancing member driven processes through the Working Groups. I also would like to inform TDAG that we will hold the RDFs back-to-back with the RPMs in order to establish synergies i.e., the RDFs to generate ideas that could feed into the RPMs.

Let me assure you, the Secretariat is also doing our homework to ensure that WTDC-25 will be efficient thanks to efficient processes in registration, document control, and support to Committees work.

I want to thank our BDT team in the field and at Headquarters. I know and appreciate their hard work.

We believe that we have a special and unique role to help accelerate meaningful and affordable connectivity. We are well placed to deploy digital to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs.

At this point I thank you once again for your foresight and strategic thinking from which we are benefiting and guided.

This TDAG was fun. When views differed, it still remained amicable and collegial.

Bon voyage.

Let us watch this highlights video to remember our great time together.

Thank you.
