Regional Training Workshop on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Indicators, 29th-30th April, 2019 in Port of Spain, Trinidad

ABOUT

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in partnership with the Caribbean Telecommunication Union (CTU) and the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT), is conducting a Regional Training Workshop on Information and Communication Technology Indicators to be held on 29th-30th April, 2019 in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The workshop will present an overview of the work on ICT measurement undertaken globally by the ICT Data and Statistics Division, ITU/BDT, including the ICT Development Index. More importantly, the workshop will also introduce the indicators (including new ones) which will be applied from 2019 and henceforth.

PURPOSE

The objectives are:

  1. To strengthen the capacity of countries in the Americas to produce ICT indicators and statistics according to international standards and methodologies,
  2. An overview of the Work on ICT measurements undertaken globally by ICT Data and Statistics; The 14 new ICT Indicators and the new IDI Methodology; Main groups of telecommunication/ICT indicators collected; The questionnaire, timelines and data collection, including the ITU Manual
  3. For the main indicators required to monitor ICT developments, the workshop will discuss the definitions, methodologies and data gaps in the Americas. The focus will be on the indicators related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the revised set of IDI indicators; Existing mechanisms of national coordination of ICT statistics
  4. To communicate to official ICT data producers in the Americas the revision of the IDI and the data that will be required for its calculation. Support efforts of countries in the Americas to meet the deadline of the next ITU questionnaire for the collection of the revised set of IDI indicators.


WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The workshop is intended for and therefore welcomes participants who are responsible for collecting and/or producing such statistics in Government Ministries, Regulatory Agencies and National Statistical Offices.
